Greetings from the SPCA Penang!
It is quite disturbing for anyone to see a pet left alone in the car park of a shopping complex for some time while pet owners go round enjoying their shopping. What will happen should you leave a pet alone in the car? It is generally safe to keep your dog for a few minutes in the car. However, it can also take a few minutes for a dog to die in a hot car. Once in a while, SPCA would receive calls of such nature. We wish to remind pet owners to never leave their pets in their vehicles when parked in shopping complexes while doing errands even for a short period of time! Care to visit us and get free samples of Dentalife for your pet? Our kennel visiting hours are from 10 a.m to 12.30 p.m. and 2p.m. to 4.30 p.m. Mondays to Fridays and on Saturdays until 12.30 p.m. Purina Petcare Malaysia Sdn Bhd has donated Dentalife daily treats for dogs to be given to our adopters and visitors at the shelter. | Animal Adoption | |

We are delighted to note that in July we had 12 adoptions - five cats and seven dogs. As one can see, we get more adoptions of cats nowadays as compared to previous years when we hardly had any in one month. Cats are gaining popularity as they do not require as much space as a dog does especially when one lives in apartments and condominiums. However, we wish to advise pet owners to be wary of their space especially when their balconies and windows are not properly secured with nettings. This will prevent them from falling.

| International Homeless Animals Day (IHAD) - Neutering Campaign | |

IHAD falls on every 3rd Saturday in August. As usual, we commemorate this day (15th August 2020 this year) by urging pet owners to neuter their pets to prevent pet overpopulation. How do we solve the problem? We have too many dogs and cats, too many for too few homes. Many owners say that they have no intention of breeding their animal but it happens. Do you know that when two dogs breed, six offspring can be born, those six offspring reproduce within one year and, in turn, they are responsible for six offspring each. Unfortunately, it doesn’t stop there. At the end of 10 years just one unneutered dog can be responsible for the birth of thousands of dogs. As for cats, it’s much much more. Cats breed at least 3-4 times a year!
During August, SPCA is offering neutering vouchers to pet owners who own pets which need neutering. The application form can be downloaded here.  |

Once again My Pet Funeral Services will be arranging for the above services for pet owners who have lost their dear pets. Due to the Covid 19 pandemic this service will be held on line, live-streamed via Facebook Live on its own website. Registration will close on August 23rd. You can visit the registration page here.

| Volunteer Briefing | |

Our next Volunteer Briefing will be held on 15th August at 9 a.m. sharp. Due to the requirements from authorities to social distance ourselves, we are limiting to 10 pax per briefing session. Registration for attendance will be on a first come first served basis. Please ensure that you can attend before signing up as we do not want to deprive others due to limitation of space. At the moment, we have 8 places taken up for the August briefing. Registration can be done here.
