Dear Members & Friends,
Greetings from the SPCA Penang! Everyone usually gets excited the moment they step into a shelter or a pet shop. Be it to visit or looking into giving the animals available a second chance. Do think carefully and choose wisely as the animal decided upon will be one’s responsibility for the lifetime of the animal adopted or purchased. Be aware of the many conditions to be considered before keeping a pet.
1. Be sure that everyone in the family is happy to have a pet. 2. Check if there is anyone in the family with a history of allergies. 3. Are you able to give time to the pet? Most important, be aware that a cat /dog’s lifespan is beyond 10 years. Are you able to commit? 4. Consider your place of dwelling. If you are renting, do consult your landlord to check if you are allowed to keep a pet. 5. Do I have any alternatives if I am not able to keep the pet after some time? It is not easy to rehome an adult dog or cat as they may not be able to adapt to a new environment. 6. If you already have a pet and need another as a companion, do seek permission from the shelter you visit to allow your pet to socialize with the one you decided on before taking it home. 7. Do register your pet with a veterinarian who you and your pet is comfortable with for routine visits and emergencies.
Be sure to visit your nearest shelter to adopt one should you be able to fulfill all these conditions with a smile! Come visit Cooper, Leo, Mango, Winnie, Maisie and Roopsie!

| Animal Adoptions | |

We appreciate the efforts of some of our volunteers who go beyond spending time socializing with the animals at the shelter, and have also taken the initiative to take photos and videos to promote adoption in our social media – facebook and instagram. A special `Thank you’ to volunteer Fran Pollard who has indeed taken time to even foster our dogs for a night or two just for photo shoots and to promote adoptions. Our latest partner in the efforts to promote our dogs available for adoption is MyForeverDoggo – you can check their posts on on instagram @myforeverdoggo. and get general information from their website. Thanks to Jason & Amy for their sincerity in helping our animals at the shelter. And thanks to the STAR Feature Writer Ellen Whyte who has very often offered us space in her Adopt Me box. In February, 7 dogs and 3 cats were found new homes.

| Animals Abandoned, Neglected, Abused | |

With the current ongoing pandemic and with no end in sight, we hope that we won't receive reports on more animals being abandoned, neglected, abused and left behind when the owners relocate. Unfortunately, we are not able to trace the donors to provide a tax exempt receipt. We would like to advise donors to screenshot and email us their paying in slip so that we can forward a receipt.
