Dear Members & Friends

Year 2020 had been a very rough year for everyone with many uncertainties. We, at SPCA, gratefully thank all our faithful members, friends and donors for their kind support and generous donations received.

We wish everyone a very Happy New Year 2021 and hope the New Year will shed good lights and bring cheers for a new beginning.

Shelter life for our animals is certainly boring when there are restrictions imposed as all visitors need to comply with the SOPs laid down. We hope to be able to receive again support of the many students from the various colleges and universities once our limited movement control order is completely lifted.

The number of people for our volunteer briefing, conducted each month is limited and as such we urge people who signed up to make it a point to turn up on the day chosen so as not to disappoint others.

Adoption Rate

Our adoption rate each month has remained stable for the last few months. In December, we managed to rehome a total of 14 dogs and cats. The number of cats who found new homes has increased recently. This could be that many owners prefer to have cats, especially when they are residing in apartments.

Services that SPCA Penang offers

For many who don’t really know exactly what SPCA offers to the general public, we wish to inform that we provide:

Ambulance service – we transport animals to the vet for treatment etc

Adoption service – we try our best to rehome the many animals under our care to good caring homes

Advice on pet care to the general public

Collect/receive unwanted pets on pet owner's request - only for very good reasons should owners decide not to own their pets anymore

Neutering subsidy – to the public who are not able to afford  the cost of neutering of their pets

Rescue animals in distress – diseased, injured etc

Check on complaints of cruelty – Any complaints made should be accompanied with evidence etc

Provide education program - to create awareness to the public, schools, colleges and universities on the work of SPCA as well as Responsible Pet Ownership

Recruitment of volunteers – people who are willing to provide volunteer service towards animal welfare

Service to remove carcass - from pet owners’ homes.

Volunteer Briefing
Our next Volunteer Briefing will be held on 16th January at 9 a.m. sharp. All places have been taken up and we wish to remind those who have signed up to be punctual. You can go here to sign up for future months.

Chinese New Year Cookies
Chinese New Year is around the corner. We have friends who have offered us the sale of their home baked CNY Cookies as a means of fundraising to help the shelter. We are ready to take orders. Do call or email to place your orders (04 2816559 or info@spca-penang.net).

Appreciation to All who Answered our Call
We thank all our kind hearted well-wishers and sponsors who have continuously supported us with our requests monthly for donations in kind and in cash. It is never easy running a shelter without the wonderful support from all of you. From the bottom of our hearts, we say 'THANK YOU'.
