Two years have passed, and there have been no new cases of rabid dog bite cases reported so far. The Director of Veterinary Services in the State of Penang has declared that Penang has achieved its "Rabies Free" status. A check with the MBPP Veterinary Services team confirms that it is no longer a compulsory requirement for pet owners to have their pet given rabies shots before applying for their dog license.

However, SPCA would still advise pet owners to continue doing the necessary especially those pet dogs that are left to roam. As the saying goes "Prevention is better than having to say sorry".

Following our appeal for food, we would like to thank the many who have donated:

SEGI College IT Co-curriculum group - Cash received towards purchase of SH Puppy Food for the shelter animals.

Ms. Parveen Kaur - cash received towards purchase of dogs' rice.

To our regular supporters and new friends who have sent in cash donations, we say thank you.

Our adoptions in November closed at the count of eight. We had two cats and six dogs happily going to new homes. We are delighted indeed to note that one of our longest canine resident "Mr. George" left the shelter to find his new home. Mr. George was admitted to the shelter on August 1, 2016 and left after staying with us for 1 year 3 months. We are indeed apprehensive of another long time canine resident, Mdm. Zora, who is still awaiting her match for a good home. Mdm. Zora was admitted to the shelter on February 15, 2016 and at that time she was 2 months old. We hope very much to have her sent out to her dream home. Would anyone care to adopt her?

Meet some of our adoptees for November:

This is Zora who is fast approaching 2 years at the shelter:

Christmas Bazaar at Straits Quay

SPCA had a chance to be invited by Straits Quay to participate in their Christmas Bazaar. Unfortunately, as we are short of manpower we were only able to commit for a day. Our heartfelt thanks to Ms. Marlene Fox for giving us the opportunity to be there as an NGO. Our grateful thanks also to all the volunteers who were there to help out with the sale of merchandise. SPCA would also like to thank the Children's Choir from the Church of Immaculate Conception who sang a medley of Christmas Carols for the occasion to create awareness.

Kids' Workshops on Responsible Pet Ownership

We are again calling kids of ages 9 to 12 years of age who have an interest to learn what keeping a pet is all about to attend the above workshop. This is only conducted weekly on Wednesdays from 2 till 4.30 p.m. Do help to create awareness on this. Parents are also welcome! To register, kindly let us have the name, age and gender of your child with your contact number via email to info@spca-penang.net.

Leo Club George Town Gathering at Straits Quay - Sunday Decenber 3

The Leo Club of George Town has invited SPCA to join them to create awareness on animal welfare, adoptions, fostering of animals etc. The various Leo Clubs will be showcasing their clubs with many events on that day at the Straits Quay. We had the opportunity to get introduction of SPCA to all of the 18 Leo Clubs present on that day.

Group Visits and Community Service

In November, we had visits from Dalat School, Tenby International School, College students from the Management & Science University and Segi College all doing their share of community service to the Society.

Our volunteer briefing held in November was well attended by 27 new recruits. We may not be able to receive them regularly volunteering at the SPCA but we are glad that they have made an effort to come to know what SPCA offers them as volunteers. The most important aspect of SPCA work is that these volunteers were introduced the policies of SPCA before they start working as volunteers of the society.

To know more on how one can volunteer at the shelter, all are invited to our next briefing to be held on Saturday 16th December, 2017 at 9 a.m. sharp. Take note that this briefing and demo session will end at approximately 11 a.m.

We never say no to anyone who is willing to help us out in any form. Any kind of donations in cash, kind and service is welcome. To know more on how you can contribute, kindly call us on 042816559 to find out from our team what is needed and suitable to make your contributions worthwhile.

SPCA Team - Thank You
