| IT'S EDUCATION TIME FOR KIDS AGAIN
As we are approaching the end of the Malaysian Schools Syllabus, it is time once again for us to prepare our Education Workshop on Responsible Pet Ownership for children. Why do we have to do this? Education is always a learning process for each and every one, be it for the young or old. Most parents who visited the shelter looking to adopt pets aimed at adopting pets for their children. When asked of their ages, these children are very much below 10 years of age. Some would not budge or even think of going home without one. Almost every reason for surrendering animals is also aimed at the fault of the children too.
It's a huge responsibility when one thinks of keeping a pet especially a dog or a cat. SPCA needs your commitment to ensure that the animal adopted is not returned after to find that the family to be can't cope with the adoption. Time and again, we stress sending kids to shelters to work with animals which will be the best way forward to test their ability, patience and perseverance before engaging into adopting.
Come this long school break at end Nov through December, we have lined up 5 weekly workshops on Wednesdays for kids of ages below 12 years to attend. Parents are welcome too. Dates for this workshop are 28th November, 5th December, 12th December, 19th December and 26th December. Time: 2 p.m. till 4.30 p.m. To register for any of the dates listed, kindly let us have your contact no., name of your child, age and gender - call us 042816559 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. Places are limited for each workshop!
ADOPTION HIGHLIGHTS
Our adoption in October was at the count of 7. Four cats and three dogs were happily found new homes. First time ever, we have more adoption on cats than dogs. Thanks to all who visited the shelter to fulfill our concept of 'ADOPT from a SHELTER to SAVE LIVES'.
We are glad to have received a successful adoption story of 'Golden the Crossed GR' which was rehomed a few months back. This is what the owner Hemaganesh says:
'Golden is so obedient and attached with everyone in my family, especially my father. Though, she's very playful and cheerful, she's a good companion to my parents. She fills their hearts with happiness and both have forgotten about their loneliness at home alone. Golden plays a vital role at home and with her charming looks, she melts their hearts. She's kept indoor with another dog and is still being toilet trained.'
Christmas Bazaar at Straits Quay
Christmas season is around the corner. Thinking of what to buy as Gifts for Friends this Christmas? Head straight on to Straits Quay at Tanjong Seri Pinang on Saturday, 25th November and find us there. SPCA is given a booth to promote the sale of our merchandise as a means to fundraise to support and maintain our animals at the shelter.
Some of our Gifts for Friends:

Also, we had a group visit by Students from the Commerce, History and Geography Class of Jit Sin High School, Bukit Mertajam. An interview of SPCA was conducted by the students.

VACANCY FOR A GENERAL WORKER
We are looking for a General and Kennel Cleaning Personnel with a compassion for animals. Work entails cleaning, feeding, bathing, medicating, grooming of animals at the shelter and any other general duties as assigned. Anyone interested, please call (04 2816559) or walk in to the shelter for a chat.
CARCASS DISPOSAL
SPCA has recently received a call from a reporter requesting confirmation on the manner in which SPCA disposes of carcases. It seems there are some people who are not aware of the current situation and they made a complaint against SPCA since we now dispose of carcasses in a dumpster bin which will later be conveyed to the landfill. Once again, we would like to announce that there is no more incineration of carcasses at the MBPP's incinerator. It has been completely shut down by the DOE due to complaints on pollution.
Should there be any pet owners who would like to request for private cremation of carcasses, SPCA will help arrange. A standard fee will be charged. SPCA will not provide any services should the options not be viable or agreeable by pet owners.
WISH LIST FOR SPCA
On an average, SPCA's monthly expenditure is now around RM25,000. We thank the many supporters and friends who have contributed continuously towards the society in any way they can be it in cash donations/kinds and services to allow us to continue our work towards animal welfare. We are indeed appreciative of everyone's continued support without which we will not be able to carry on. Any type of help/support given matters. To know more on how you can contribute, we appreciate a call to discuss.
