WORLD ANIMAL DAY, 4TH OCTOBER

Come join us this World Animal Day Wednesday 4th October. Drop by the shelter to give our shelter animals a 'HUG'. Bring your family and friends to visit them. Take them out from our kennels and walk them. They would love to see you.

In celebration of World Animal Day, SPCA once again offers Neutering Vouchers up to RM150 for pet owners who own dogs and cats which are not neutered.

To be eligible, kindly:
1. Have your pets vaccinated - proof of a vaccination health record is required upon application
2. Get an appointment from your veterinarian for date for surgery
3. Come to the SPCA Office to fill up an application form to obtain the voucher.

This spaying campaign is open to cats and dogs of minimum age 5 months. Our mission is to reduce the pet overpopulation which will become 'strays'.

The application form can be downloaded here.

APPEAL FOR A PROJECTOR

Our 10 year old projector which we have been using for presentations during events and education, has outlived its purpose and is no longer functioning. We urgently need a projector and would like to source for a sponsor to support our cause. We do not mind a used one 'as good as new' to suit our purpose.

ADOPTION HIGHLIGHTS
Our adoption number in September was superb. We had the highest amount of adoptions ever this year with 10 dogs and 2 cats adopted. Every animal adopted is carefully matched as much as possible with their new found homes. Thank you to all adopters who adopt our message "Don't Buy, Adopt" a Shelter Animal.

We made a follow up with one of our adoptee Miao Miao who was adopted at end 2016. This is the adoption tale of Miao Miao

Short Story: Samantha Tow & Miao Miao
At end year 2016, I decided to adopt a kitten from the SPCA and I named it 'Miao Miao'. Every time when I see stray cats I feel sad and really pity them. They have no proper shelter from the rain and sunshine. Furthermore, they eat food from the rubbish bin which is unhealthy and later became sick. It really upsets me when I see them being hit by vehicles on the road.

The first day when Miao Miao reached home, she was very excited. She ran quickly and hit the glass door. I spend time playing with her daily after work. Soon after, I adopted another cat.

I would like to convey the message "Don't buy, adopt" should you want to consider keeping a pet. When you adopt from the SPCA, they will explain to you how to care for the animals responsibly.

HAPPENINGS

Pets Fiesta at Straits Quay

In support of our presence at the Pets Fiesta held on 9th September, SPCA would like to thank Straits Quay Retail Marina management for having us there. Our sincere gratitude also to Organiser, Ms. Marina Alaguru Chua, at Moms Shaping Moms Penang group for their dance presentation in support of the theme 'Buddy Adoption Sharing'. It was a fun filled day at the booth with the presence of our 4 paw friends which were the STARS of the day.

'Cut for Charity' at SPICE Arena Bayan Lepas

The event on 10th September 'Cut for Charity' was a success. Our appreciation to the Penang Green Council and Greenxagon Marketing Sdn. Bhd for having chosen SPCA as their beneficiary.

A special mention too to all the Professional Hairstylists from eight Hair Studios who were there busy with their skills. Thanks to all who supported at the event. A whopping RM4600 was raised.

Meeting up with Han Chiang College & Disted College Mass Com Students

To help students with their college projects, a meeting with five Han Chiang College Mass Students was organised. Two hours of fruitful time was spent to educate these students on how the SPCA functions and its objectives etc. were presented to motivate them to become future ambassadors on how Responsible Pet Ownership should be. Recordings of the meeting and visit round the kennels and cattery were conducted. From the students at Disted College, a corporate video shoot will be on the way. We appreciate their interest in animal welfare.
