SPCA is concerned over the spate of requests to surrender pets to the shelter for no apparent good reasons. At times, we are even threatened that the animals will be left on the streets if SPCA does not wish to receive them. Is the SPCA to be blamed for their actions?

Never indulge in adopting/buying a pet if you are not prepared to commit for a good ten years and beyond. Children too, can be an influence when they make all their promises that they will play a part to help maintain. These promises may be temporary and hence, the responsibilities will be left to adult members of the family. There are many sites where one could reach to find out more about caring for the type of dog suitable to your lifestyle and their needs before you decide to adopt/purchase one.

Tika and Tiko left unwanted by their owners:
'WE LEARN - RESPONSIBLE PET OWNERSHIP WORKSHOP' jointly partnered with Smartheart Perfect Companion Group

We are back again for one session on the above workshop during this school holiday break on Wednesday, 17th Sept. 2014. Time: 2-4.30 p.m. Parents are welcome too. To register, kindly email SPCA (info@spca-penang.net) or visit http://www.perfectcompanion.com.my/We_Learn.htm.

The SPCA TEAM is filled with joy whenever an animal is found a happy home. Every pet adopted is a life saved. We do not believe that they stay in shelters for life as they deserve to be happy in good and forever homes. Will you help spread the word around and help save the lives of the many animals available for adoption at shelters? Visit our adoption gallery here.

UPCOMING EVENTS - World Animal Day
World Animal Day was started in 1931 at a convention of ecologists in Florence as a way of highlighting the plight of endangered species. October 4 was chosen as World Animal Day as it is the Feast Day of St Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals.

Since then, World Animal Day has become a day for remembering and paying tribute to all animals and the people who love and respect them. It's celebrated in different ways in every country, with no regard to nationality, religion, faith or political ideology.

Come join us to celebrate this day at the Japanese Garden in Jalan Mas, Island Park on Sunday 5th October from 10am to 1pm. All are welcome including our 4paws friends too. There will be a dog competition, dog show, fun and games for all. Light meals and snacks will be on sale. Our SPCA Merchandise will be on sale too.

If you could donate in cash or sponsor in kind eg. snacks, drinking water, cakes etc. please call our office at 2816559 to discuss.

Bring your dogs along and participate in the dog competition too. To register for the dog competion, kindly download and complete this form and return by hand or to photos@spca-penang.net.
