INTERNATIONAL HOMELESS ANIMALS' DAY proudly co-ordinated by International Society for Animals Rights

Annually, the 3rd Saturday of August is proclaimed as International Homeless Animals' Day. Animal Shelters around the globe are encouraged to participate. Candlelight Vigils are meant to memorialize the animals that have lost their lives because of insufficient homes and also to pay tribute to the selfless people who devote their lives to help stop cruelty and abuse.

Come, join us at our SPCA PENANG OPEN DAY on Saturday, 16th August to commemorate International Homeless Animals' Day. Though each day is an open day for us, we would like to invite all our members, friends and supporters as we will specially extend our visiting hours on this special day until 2 p.m. Bring your friends and family along. There will be an Awareness Talk by an SPCA Official at 11 a.m. Come and get to 'KNOW YOUR SPCA'.

Quite a number of reports on missing and/or found animals were received lately. A few were happily reunited. Again and again, we wish to remind pet owners to exercise more care before driving their vehicles out from their compound. The following have yet to be reunited:
* A brown golden retriever now residing at Taman Air Rajah area
* Cr. Pitbull picked up from Bayan Lepas is still at the shelter and many more which are not listed on our blog
* A silky male terrier now residing at Cangkat Tembaga
Boy Boy and Patches reunited with their owners:

SPCA SAYS "THANK YOU" to the Students at Han Chiang High School
Following a fund raising event 'Hope' Carnival organized by the students at Han Chiang High School, SPCA would like to express its heartfelt appreciation to all the students involved. SPCA received RM5000 from the event.

SPCA will be expanding its shelter to provide temporary homes for more homeless animals. This expansion covers an area of 4,800 square feet, almost doubling the size of its present premises. An estimated budget of RM300,000 will be needed to:

* Build a perimeter wall surrounding the area
* Build a large cattery for cats
* Build a multipurpose hall to conduct educational activities
* Reconstruct and turn our present cattery to house puppies
* Reconstruct our present waiting and clinic room into a reception hall etc.

We would like to appeal to all members, friends and supporters for their contribution. To contribute you can go to our website and click on to the 'DONATE' button (http://donations.spca-penang.net) or call us for more details. We also welcome anyone who would like to organize any fundraising towards this expansion project.

In July, only 9 cats and dogs had the chance to be welcomed into their new loving homes. It's a pity to note that very few homes are found. No, the word 'PITY' as commonly used should be phased out. We would like to appeal to anyone who's looking to adopt a pet. Would you like to give them the OPPORTUNITY to be in your home? Come and visit them!
