REHOMING ADULT DOGS

Many pet owners are upset by the fact that it is almost impossible to rehome an older animal. Most days we can receive up to 4 calls for such a request to surrender older animals, especially dogs. Owners don’t realize that it is not as easy as they think. They get very upset and have bad thoughts and comments on the society thinking that no efforts are being made except to educate them on our policy on euthanasia.

Have the owners done their part before surrendering to a shelter? Some have very high hopes, but when they are asked a question like: "What would you look for when you decide to own one?" It’s amazing to note that they are quick to reverse their thoughts and admit they would be looking for a younger one especially puppies.

For those who do not mind an adult dog, they need to think very hard before they decide to commit. Sensibly, they wonder if the dog can adapt to their new home or get along with another which they already have.

Adult dogs surrendered will be stuck at shelters for a while. We are glad to note that 6 year old 'Caesar', the Belgian German Shepherd who was with us for almost 3 months, has finally found his new family.

Community Service from colleges, universities and schools
Schools, colleges and universities have kept us busy in providing them time to perform their services towards animal welfare. During the month of March, we had visits from:

Wawasan Open University

Visit by kids from FFWP

Chinese Arts & Cultural Secretariat of USM Penang

A total of 50 students came to perform their duties and also presented a donation of RM2000 raised or two charities from the Cultural Show in USM recently. Thumbs up to these students for the efforts put in. The Cultural Show was indeed very well organized.

Visit by year 6 students of Uplands School

Upon a request, SPCA made a visit to the Uplands School to talk on animal cruelty. In return the Year 6 students held a fundraiser making dog treats for sale in their school. A sum of RM200 was raised and presented to the shelter during their visit.

Visit by 6 students from Cosmopoint College

Year 10 students Fairview International School

Donation received from the Music for Awareness Society (MFAS)

Adoption Highlights
In March, we had 6 adoptions all of which were dogs. No cats were found homes. We finally had Mocca adopted. Mocca has been at the shelter for 8 months.

We are glad to have a follow up on our adoptees:

Jet:

From adopter Angie Ng: Jet, coming to 9 mths now. When we adopt him he was only 4mths old. An active and playful dog. Fun to be with.

Duke:

Duke was fostered in November. When the foster family brought him back at the end of December, they had made the decision to adopt him. Here he is on adoption day and click here to download a video of him since his adoption.
