HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR TO ALL

The start of the New Year brings us many new arrivals especially dogs and puppies. Our kennels are indeed packed and more are on our wait list to come in. We look forward to having more animals adopted. Unfortunately the reality is such if one takes a look on our animal adoption based as at end 2016 only 91 were homed. This means an average of 7-8 animals get adopted monthly.

If only pet minders/animal rescuers care to neuter their pets, there will be less abandoned animals. SPCA requests help from the community to help identify such pet owners and advised them to come forward to obtain neutering vouchers from the society. This will help pet owners subsidize the cost of neutering their pets. To apply, kindly go to our website at www.spca-penang.net to download the application form or call for enquiries at 04-28166559/016-4166559 during office hours. You can help make a difference to reduce stray animals.

During this Chinese New Year festive season which will end on 11th February, we sincerely hope that pet owners will exercise extra care to ensure that their pets stay indoors as much as possible. With the firing of firecrackers, they can be severely stressed and may escape from homes. Do ensure that pet owners provide them Freedom from Discomfort.

FLEAS & TICKS CONTROL IN DOGS

Lately, we have many pet owners faced with a problem of fleas and ticks on their pets especially dogs. With our hot and humid weather, it is natural that we face such problem when keeping pets.

Should you allow your dog to wander out, do check on them when they are back. Leaving it unchecked will cause a problem not only to your compound as it may have a health risk to the family at home.

Ticks can be easy to miss especially on dogs with dark coats. It may be more difficult to find fleas and ticks on dogs with long fur. Be sure to keep up to date on monthly preventives. To eradicate fleas and ticks from the home, one will need to treat the dog, the interior and the surrounding areas. Do get the advice from your veterinarian on the type of products to be used to eradicate this problem.

ADOPTION HIGHLIGHTS
In the month of January we had 3 cats and 6 dogs left the shelter for their new homes. There are still many from ages 2 months till 8 years waiting to settle in new homes. Would anyone care to adopt them?
