KEEP YOUR PET SAFE THIS CHINESE NEW YEAR SEASON

Are your pets behaving more unusually than normal with the sound of firecrackers during the Chinese New Year season? Pets which are not used to this loud bang can be stressed and, would run helter-skelter looking for cover under tables, chairs, beds or dashing into the house. We would like to remind all pet owners to be more careful. Make preparations to avoid any untoward incident like running out of your house compound. Keep them properly confined so that they will not escape. If need be, perhaps you should make arrangements where your pet can go to a safe place to board while you enjoy and be merry with peace of mind during this festive season.

We wish all our members and friends a very HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR. May the Year of the Monkey bring you good health and happiness always.

PET REUNIONS
We are very happy to note that 2 pets were reunited with their families recently. Many thanks to all who have helped to inform/share our facebook link to their friends and families. Below are 2 lucky dogs which were reunited with their families.

STARS ADOPTED
Our new year 2016 started with only 2 cats and 5 dogs adopted out from the SPCA Shelter. We have been given a picture that the year will not be as robust as in the past. Due to economic reasons, pet owners are now tightening their budgets and as such our rate of adoptions will be poorer. Our spirit will not be dampened with this current situation and we have high hopes that our shelter animals will have their way to end up in good and loving homes. We would like to thank the STAR MEDIA for having featured our call regularly in the STAR METRO WATCH column appealing for good and loving homes.

EDUCATION AWARENESS IN CARING OF ANIMALS AND COMMUNITY SERVICE
We have been receiving requests from many students from the various colleges in Penang to fulfill their responsibility to perform community services at NGOs. Thanks to the lecturers involved. We hope that through this program, students will get to be aware of the happenings in and around their community.

EXERCISE GROUND FOR SHELTER ANIMALS
Our plans to build a new cattery and a multi-purpose hall for educational purpose is still in progress. Plans for the purpose have not been approved yet by the authorities concerned. While waiting for all these to happen and as this is time consuming, the management has decided to turn the whole area into an exercise ground for our shelter animals until the time that this work can proceed.

Our volunteers are indeed very happy with the area as there is much more room for them to interact/socialize with the animals they are working with. This goes well for our animals too as they have the whole place to run and exercise. Even once the cattery and hall are built, we will still retain an extensive exercise area for the dogs. Work on this project alone has cost the society approximately RM93,000. We appreciate the help of some donors who have contributed towards this cause. For more details on how you can contribute towards this, kindly go here for more info.
