LET'S ALL MAKE A PLEDGE FOR THE NEW YEAR - CREATE A HAPPY AND HEALTHY ENVIRONMENT

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL. May this New Year bring positive changes for all furry friends who are not so fortunate. We hope pet owners carry this pledge 'I AM ONE CARING AND RESPONSIBLE OWNER' and let us all be reminded of the following 5 Freedoms for Animals.

FREEDOM FROM HUNGER AND THIRST -Make sure your pet has ready access to fresh water and a good diet to keep them healthy
FREEDOM FROM DISCOMFORT - Provide your pet an appropriate shelter away from the rain and sunshine
FREEDOM FROM PAIN, INJURY OR DISEASE - Seek veterinary treatment rapidly whenever necessary
FREEDOM TO EXPRESS NORMAL BEHAVIOUR - Provide sufficient space and company for your pet
FREEDOM FROM FEAR & DISTRESS - By making sure their conditions and treatment avoid mental suffering

We encourage everyone owning pets to practice the 5 Freedoms for Animals which is internationally declared. Help create a clean and happy environment for all and let us receive no complaints on:
(1) strays wandering around - start neutering your pet if you have not done so
(2) animals gone missing - ensure that the environment for your pet is safe and practice more care
(3) abuse, neglect and abandonment - think before you adopt. Don't own one if you have no compassion towards animals.

STARS ADOPTED

Year 2015 closed with 111 adoptions recorded. This showed that an average of 9-10 animals were adopted monthly. Every fur kid of ours adopted are carefully matched with their new homes as much as possible as we do not want to see them being returned at the shelter with no good reasons. We hope to see more animals adopted to good caring homes in year 2016.

FUNDRAISING AND SPCA AWARENESS EVENT
CITY WALK 1.1.2016
Every 1st day of the year, we are invited by the MBPP to participate in their City Walk/Exhibition Event held at the Esplanade. This is indeed a good start to the New Year to showcase SPCA and create awareness of what SPCA does. Many, especially the younger generations, have been misled by others for their own glory that SPCA's work is all about euthanizing of animals. Again and again, we stress that the policies of RSPCA does not include a 'no kill' policy. Its aim worldwide is to promote kindness, suppress cruelty and to alleviate sufferings.

We are disappointed to note that these young generations so called 'animal lovers' are so naïve. They have no idea what animal welfare is all about. Caring for animals is not about providing food and then being left alone. Companion Animals, especially dogs, are dependent on their owners. Dogs are unlike cats, which are much more independent.

31.1.2016 - DRAMA PLAY AT PENANGPAC, STRAITS QUAY
In honour of the New year, we have been given 50 tickets for the drama play 'MARBLE HEARTS' to be shared among SPCA and another NGO The Society for the Aid to the Handicapped. Tickets are priced at RM40 each. Early birds purchase by 15th January will be at RM30 each on a first come first serve basis. Date: 31st January at 3 p.m. Place: Penangpac Stage 2, Straits Quay. Running time for the show will be 90 minutes plus an intermission of 15 minutes. Call us to book your tickets. Information for the play is as below:

MARBLE HEARTS

A modern tragedy "playing in the wings" of William Shakespeare's King Lear, Marble Hearts is a new play that tells the stories of three sisters - Goneril, Regan and Cordelia - who seek to find their own way in life as their aged and abusive father descends into insanity. The play intersects with the plot of King Lear at key moments but presents an entirely new perspective on the sisters' hopes and fears as well as relentless pursuit of ambition that drives them each towards seemingly inevitable self-destruction - but are they as calculative as they seem, which is the victim, and which of their stories is true?

Marble Hearts features Shakespeare's original lines from King Lear and elsewhere as well as new dialogues in prose and modern blank verse.

AWARENESS IN THE CARING OF ANIMALS AND THE COMMUNITY AROUND YOU
We welcome any schools, colleges, universities, companies and organizations to partner SPCA in any way to help create a happy and clean environment for the benefit of our paw friends and the community of Penang in general.
