SPCA Penang
Welcome to our October 2024 Newsletter!

Dear Members & Friends,

Good greetings to all!

We receive many requests for stray pregnant cats to be surrendered. How nice it is to say that "We are not responsible for their pregnancies". People, if you are feeding stray animals, please think of helping them by not only feeding! Do think of their procreation, a cat can produce three to four times a year and as for a dog twice a year. Before you engage into feeding them, do think of their welfare and get advice from a shelter or any vet clinic should you wish to continue feeding. What must you not do! Don’t keep feeding and then waiting until the animal becomes pregnant and then decide to abandon them at shelters. It’s your responsibility to care for them and not push on to others. Their chances of survival may be poor at shelters and it is indeed a burden to them!

Adoptions

We are questioned  as to how many dogs and cats get adopted each month. Well, we would be very happy if we can get ten a month consistently. Unfortunately, we are unable to. We respect potential adopters who come and go while visiting. Adoption is a commitment and we would hope people don’t adopt on an impulse and then return later when it does not work out for them.

In September, we had one cat & three dogs adopted.

We have many cats and dogs who have overstayed at the shelter and are still waiting to be adopted. Also, they are already bonded and receive much attention from our staff and volunteers.

Do consider a change and if you have the means to and do not thinking of a pup to start with. Adult pets will give you much less teething problems. We can’t change a dog's past but we could rewrite its future.

Adoption is a promise where one needs to commit  time, ensure space and have the financial means to see to their welfare. We have worked out the costs for keeping a pet (cat/dog) throughout their lifetime and this serves as a guide for potential pet owners. You can check the article here.

World Animal Day - October 4, 2024

This year’s theme for World Animal Day is "The World is their home too". Let us all make the world a better place for them and us too as all animals are sentient beings of the universe. Whatever you choose to own, it is your responsibility to care for them while in your custody. To all caretakers of animals, "Happy World Animal Day’.
