  Dear Members & Friends,

Greetings from the SPCA Penang!

The September month was indeed a stressing time for the shelter animals as most were not able to enjoy their proper schedule to express their normal behavior. Due to our shortage of manpower, most were confined within their kennels. With the relaxation of rules regards to the pandemic, we are now ready to open as usual as our staff are fully vaccinated. As such, we would expect our visitors and volunteers to be vaccinated, and to observe the standard operating procedures. However, we would be happy and grateful if a call (04 2816559) can be made for an appointment before coming.

Apprehending Stray Cats

Complaints on feral cats are becoming rampant and we hope the public understands that handling strays especially cats is not easy. How we can help? We can help to remove only if the cat can be kept in a confined space not too large. It would be most convenient, if the public could help to trap and ensure that it is contained securely in a proper manner. Sometimes, it can escape while in the process of being handled and in the process, handlers can get scratched and/or bitten.

Awareness on Animal Adoption and the Society

With the pandemic, when everyone is staying safe at home as much as possible, we are indeed fortunate to receive support from students of various colleges helping to promote kindness to animals via the social media. The society has in this way offered our services in a 'win win' situation in aiding students to complete their extra curriculum under their MPU subject.

As at to date in 2021, we had 112 cats and dogs adopted.

The new SOP for Phase 2 has now allowed us to accept visitors. As such, to avoid overcrowding of volunteers (especially on Saturdays) at the shelter we would appreciate if our fully vaccinated regulars could call in and let us know of your date and time coming.

Volunteer Briefing
It has been six months now that we had no briefings to recruit new volunteers. We will open for registration soon. However, we would like to advise that we will only allow those who have been fully vaccinated.

We thank all for sending in pet food and donations in various forms (including items we were able to re-sell) to help raise some funds for the society. (The Philips stand iron steamer [top left] is still available - do call us 042816559 if you are interested, offers around RM100.)

We would also like to thank our fosterers who have called in to help foster young puppies and kittens during this period. Your help in foster care of these very young animals before they are ready for vaccinations is greatly appreciated.

Thank you all and STAY SAFE
