Good greetings to all!

 

There are many reasons why a pet dog might suddenly bite its owner. Could it be that your pet is in pain or ill? Or could it be out of fear or anxiety? There are many factors that lead a dog to display this behaviour. We often get calls to remove dogs when an owner is bitten and the family is traumatized, especially if someone is admitted to the hospital. At the shelter, we are not in a position to rehome aggressive dogs with a history of biting. Owners usually expect us to give advice or solutions. Perhaps, the most appropriate thing to do would be to:

  1. Consult a good and professional dog trainer to help handle such issues to prevent surrendering.

  2. Consult a veterinarian to help identify any medical cause.

In our course of handling calls from owners of such dogs, we have found that most dog bite cases occur with unneutered dogs. Sadly, most pet owners would rather opt for euthanasia, viewing it as the only option left.

Adoptions

 

 

It was a cat’s month with six adoptions for the month of August. Hope we have a great month for our dogs this September! By any chance if you are looking for a second dog to accompany the one at home, we advise to bring yours to pick a new friend from the shelter. Our team would be happy to help mix and match.

 


 
     

Happenings

 

 

We welcomed the visit by employees from ZTOM Sdn Bhd with items donated: pet food for our animals, as well as cleaning supplies for the shelter. Our grateful thanks for their generosity.

To the various groups of students at TARUMT, themed: pawsitiveimpact, supportspcapenang, Velora Sdn Bhd in the ACCA Business Game Business, we thank you for your fundraising contributions and awareness raised in collaboration with SPCA Penang.

 

We thank the first vet students from UPM for having spent their time with us for the past one month. We hope they have achieved their aims and purpose working with the staff and the animals while at the shelter.

Volunteer Briefing

 

 

Our next volunteer briefing will be held on Saturday 19th September. Time: 9.30 a.m. sharp. We take in limited number of volunteers for the briefing each month. Please do sign up only when you are able to turn up for the briefing.

OPENING HOURS

Monday - Friday: 10am - 12.30pm and 2pm - 4.30pm
Saturday: 10am - 12.30pm
We are closed on Sundays and some Public Holidays (please check website for details).

Our phone is manned 7 days a week until 7pm. Emergency calls will only be handled during daylight hours.
