SPCA Penang
Welcome to our September 2025 Newsletter!

Dear Members & Friends,

Good greetings to all!

We anticipated that perhaps if we hold our AGM on Merdeka Day it will allow more members to be able to attend, sadly it wasn’t so. However, we managed to convene smoothly without much waiting time to reach a quorum. As approved by the Registrar of Societies, we are now holding election of members biannually. For the info of members who were unable to attend, the list of office bearers remains the same except that we have a vacant seat for one committee member. This position could be co-opted at our monthly meeting if there is any member keen with interest to support animal welfare.

List of Office Bearers for the year 2025-2027 is as follows:

Chairman: Dato N Ramanathan

Vice Chairman: Dr. Amreet Singh Gill

Hon. Secretary: Ms. Cynthia Ng

Hon. Treasurer: Ms. Sheila Ho Yee Meng

Committee Members:

Dato Molly Mark

Mr. Loh Eng Chye

Ms. Joanne Lim Siew Thoe

Dr. Jeyalakshimi Ratnavale

Co-opted Members: Ms. Tan Mee Har & Ms. Lim Gaik Kee

For our friends and supporters, our annual report for the Year 2024 is available at https://spca-penang.net/annual_reports/annual_report_2024.pdf

Adoptions

Sometimes, we do get follow ups from our adopters as to how our adoptees get on in their new environment. It is indeed fascinating to note that Lola (a third time rehoming candidate) who was adopted sometime in late June was doing so well with her new paw parents. Within such a short time, she could obey commands. We are sure it needs a lot of patience and perseverance to work this out. To Lola (now named Churros) and her paw parents, Well Done!

And this is Ruby, adopted in 2019. Here she is now enjoying life!

August was a cat month where we had four adoptions. We also had a few of our older cats released to make way for new ones to fill their place.

Community Service

Industrial Training for 1st Year Vet Students at UPM

The second batch of students from UPM ended their industrial training on 23rd August. We are indeed appreciative of their choice to come our shelter. We hope they have learned well and achieved whatever guidance parted by the staff.

Community Service & Educational Talks

We are collaborating with colleges/universities to allow them to work on projects which help them to either fundraise or perform their community service at the shelter. Interviews for their video projects were conducted with management staff to raise awareness on Responsible Pet Ownership.

Our sincere thanks to Senmit Design and Decoration staff visit to the shelter and their gifts of donations in cash and petfood.

Volunteer Briefing

Our next volunteer briefing be held on Saturday 20th Sept. Time 9.30 a.m sharp. Please be punctual as we will not wait for attendees who arrived late.
