Welcome to our September 2024 Newsletter!

Dear Members & Friends,

Good greetings to all!

We have tried and tried, done our best to help save, find homes for the many under our care, be it from puppies until adult stage and even the very elderly are abandoned on us. We do not have a “No Kill” policy and members of the public who wish to surrender/bring stray animals need to have an understanding that the animals brought in may be put to sleep. This does not mean that we will do it immediately in every case. We will need to check the problem: health, characteristics, behaviour and so forth. We hear critics that say our society euthanizes animals but we do not get the critics to come along to help save or lend a helping hand. It is easy to sit on the other side of the fence to give comments. We just hope the many who care will just come along, adopt willingly without being bothered of their ages, their looks and size. Are you able to commit and give them a second chance of a good home?

Here are just some of the animals in our care with their ages.

Adoptions

It was a cats’ month in August. We had nine cats and one pup adopted. The trend of more people visiting and looking for cats is getting popular. Most probably, it is more convenient to keep cats than dogs in high rise buildings. However, cat owners need to take precautions especially where there are balconies. Cats tend to be inquisitive and curious. Unknowingly of heights they could fall easily and land into their neighborhood or even obtain severe injuries that could be fatal. One needs to think of their safety before proceeding to adopt a cat and take precautionary measures on how to avoid them from escaping/falling.

Happenings

PAWRADISE Pet Carnival

With the invitation from LEO Club of Penang(City), SPCA was given the opportunity to participate at the above event held at Straits Quay. We gratefully thank the organisers for their thoughts of inviting animal shelters. We thank the patrons who were there to support our booth with the sale of our merchandise.

CSR by Staff of Agilent Technologies

It was a Saturday morning with good weather when staff from Agilent Technologies were able to help clean our kennels /catteries and socialise with our animals at the pound. Other chores of sweeping and cleaning the compound, which is far from their daily routines of working at their computers, were organised too. At the end, they commented that it was a tiring morning but they enjoyed their day! As we are unable to accommodate too large a group for their service, we look forward to others who have signed in to come in batches over the next few weeks.

Requests for social service by the public

Where requests for community service is concerned, we preferably would like to limit the number of visitors to a maximum of 10 pax as much as possible. We also advise visitors coming and not planning to adopt to make short visits instead. This is to minimize the stress on our animals especially the dogs which can get stressed through excessive barking. Some will express fear, nervousness and become timid.
