Welcome to our August 2025 Newsletter!

Dear Members & Friends,

Good greetings to all!

Lately, there have been shoutouts on social media by animal welfare NGOs in regards to urging our government to look into campaigns on running Trap, Neuter and Release programs. It is indeed very tiring for animal NGOs to advocate this without help from the government. Joint efforts can be achieved if pet owners get involved too to help reduce the stray population and abandonment. International Homeless Animals Day (IHAD) is observed on every 3rd Saturday of August by the International Society for Animal Rights (ISAR). We joined efforts with ISAR and observe this day too and we urge pet owners who keep cats and dogs to neuter their pets to avoid:

  1. overpopulation of strays and abandonment

  2. poisoning of strays when some see them as a nuisance in society

  3. abuse by perpetrators

  4. cases of accidents where animals are found fallen into drains and/or hit by vehicles

When can one start doing the neutering? Should you own a cat or dog of age at least 5 months, please start making appointments with your veterinarian now! Responsible Pet Ownership begins at HOME.

To observe IHAD, SPCA is giving subsidies to pet owners to encourage neutering to avoid the multiplying of cats and dogs.

We do our part and YOU do yours. To be eligible for a subsidy, kindly go to this link …… or walk in to the shelter.

Adoptions

We are happy to note that four of our animals at the shelter (namely, Dogs: Charlie, Copper & Jippy, and Cat Zoey) have left for their forever homes.

Social Services & Fundraising

Many groups of students from various courses at TARUMT as well as Peninsula College, MSU & PSDC were received to aid them in their MPU project. Their presence at the shelter to perform their community service is appreciated. Amongst them, they have also raised their own funds to donate food plus other essential items needed. We thank them for reaching out to SPCA and hope to receive their continued support.

We collaborate with the UPM Veterinary Science Faculty each year in allowing 1st year Vet students who chose to perform their Industrial Training Program at animal shelters for the period 28th July till 24th August. We welcome the two batches of students who will be working with us for the said period.

Announcement: Annual General Meeting

To all Life and Ordinary Members, kindly note that our AGM has been scheduled for Sunday 31st August. Time: 3 p.m. The notice will be dispatched soon. We hope to see you all.

Volunteer Briefing

Our next volunteer briefing will be held on Sat. 16th August. Time: 9.30 a.m. sharp at the SPCA premises.

We had a family of volunteers (Veda Itsuki’s family) saying "SAYONARA" to us and the paws as they  leave for Japan after two years with us. We thank them for the services they gave to the shelter from socializing with the animals as well as cleaning and sweeping our exercise area for the animals. We wish them well and hope they would return again someday for a visit.

Old Newspapers

An appeal for old newspapers that we can shred and use to line the cat litter boxes. If you can drop them off, it would be appreciated. Thank you!

Appreciation

We are indeed grateful to all our donors who answered our wish list for kitten pouches. We have received much needed items of this which would last us for a while. Our sincere thanks to all who have also brought in food for the animals as well as other sundry items for use at the shelter.

Used pet carriers, as good as new, of various sizes are received too. Should there be anyone who needs such, do please drop by in exchange for a donation. May you all be blessed with good tidings!

Thank you
