SPCA Penang
Welcome to our August 2023 Newsletter!

Dear Members & Friends,

Good greetings to all!

International Homeless Animals Day - Saturday 19th August!

It’s that time of the year-  the third Saturday of August - 19th that marks International Homeless Animals Day (IHAD). We observe the month by providing subsidized spaying vouchers to pet owners. We believe that the problem of homeless animals should be nipped in the bud to avoid the problem of pet overpopulation. Shelters are all overwhelmed with the tragedy of dog and cat overpopulation. Thus, they are not able to cope when more and more requests for acceptance in handing over of strays are made.

One neutered animal can save a lot of animals from being abandoned and/or euthanized. Help us increase public awareness of pet overpopulation by spreading the importance of neutering. To be eligible for our spaying vouchers, this is what pet owners need to do - complete this form and email back to info@spca-penang.net.

Also, on this special day, Saturday 19th August, we are open for adoptions until 2 p.m. Hope to see all!

Adoption is a Promise

Five cats and six dogs found loving homes in July. We are beginning to feel that the message of "DON’T SHOP, ADOPT" is gaining momentum. However, there are still adopters requesting for breeds and very young animals. At shelters, most animals received are lost and abandoned and end up as strays. We seldom have breed dogs. Adoption is "as is when it comes in". Care to adopt, visit our webpage at: www.spca-penang.net

Activities and Happenings at the Shelter

We accept vet students from any veterinary faculty who are willing to spend their time volunteering their services at the shelter. It was indeed a pleasure to receive five 1st year Veterinary students from the Universiti Putra Malaysia who were with us for their Industrial Training for period 17th until 29th July. Our cats and dogs had a lovely time and we hope that the students had good memories working with them too.

We would also like to thank all students from The One Academy and KDU UOW students who have done a wonderful job in helping to raise funds in their own way for the SPCA as selling our merchandise in their institutions.
