SPCA Penang
Welcome to our July 2026 Newsletter!

Dear Members & Friends,

Good greetings to all!

The July month will be an exciting month for the animals at the shelter as we have received many requests for community learning service and industrial training programs for students from the various colleges, universities - and employees from organizations too. Even though most visitors do not own pets, their dedication to animal welfare amazes us. It is heartwarming to have them observe how animal shelters run, and struggle to find homes for the abandoned and rescued animals. Perhaps they could share their learning experience at a shelter like ours with their friends and relatives who own pets and advise them on responsible pet ownership!

Adoptions

There are ups and downs in our monthly adoptions. Perhaps, our paw friends are unable to meet the criteria of potential visitors. Most would give the excuse that a grown-up dog may not be suitable to start with. We understand and respect that, but the least we could advise “give it a try and you never know”. During the month of June we had two dogs, namely Kaya & Pumpkin, and one cat Coconut find their new lovely owners. Plus a friend adopted two hamsters that were dumped at our gate.

Requests for surrendering are still coming in. A recent request involves a couple of dogs being turned over to the shelter due to a sudden change of faith. All animals are sentient beings and God’s creatures. Should there be any distinction between them?

Happenings and Visits

SPCA Spaying Campaign

Our free offer of monthly subsidized neutering vouchers is not gaining popularity in comparison with the number of requests for TNR on stray cats fed by caregivers/feeders.

Neutering indeed saves lives. We encourage pet owners to do the needful when their pet comes of age. This will reduce the new generation of unwanted/abandoned animals. We urge every human being to help spread the need to neuter to avoid abandonment.

Community Service

We believe in the power to educate and pass on knowledge about the importance of mindfulness, creating a happy environment for both animals and the human population with compassion. We greatly appreciate the presence of the below community who have chosen to spend much of their time at the shelter.

Tax-exemption Status

Since the year 1954, the Society has been receiving tax exempt status automatically. With the new ruling, LHDN has informed that our tax-exempt status will end at year 2026. We are in the process of renewing our status and we sincerely pray and hope that we will be granted the same.

We thank our donors, members and friends who have been with us all the while with their kind and generous support in whatever manner required by the society.

Our Wish List

We appreciate the following in your grocery list for our animals and usage at the shelter.

  1. Detergents and mosquito sprays

  2. Pet food for puppies (wet and dry) and pet food for adult dogs

  3. Lidi brooms for our dog exercise compound

We are looking for fosterers who can help foster these five puppies for at least two weeks!

Thank you
