Pet Soul Liberation Ceremony!

We hear of this ceremony arranged at temples for loved ones who had left us dearly but not for pets. We have been approached to keep pet owners informed of such a service which will be held on 14th August at the Kuan Im See Temple in Jalan Burma. To register, kindly go to The Event Link . Net proceeds will be channeled to Buddhist Charitable and selected Animal Welfare Organisations.

Management Committee of the SPCA Penang

The society conducted it’s AGM on 29th July. There was not much change in the Office Bearers for the society except for a replacement of a new committee member . The President and Committee thanked all members and friends for their support in enabling SPCA to sail smoothly for another year. The annual report of the society can be viewed here.

Adoption Highlights

We seem to be having more and more cats dropped in lately. Also our kennels for dogs are all filled up and we're at full capacity. Adoption for the month of June was extremely poor with only one dog named Gimbo (found lost or abandoned by his owner) adopted plus three cats. We hope the month of July will bring good tidings to our shelter animals.

Industrial Training Program for Vet Students

We are indeed honored to be in partnership with the Veterinary Faculty at Universiti Putra Malaysia. Batches of 1st Year Vet Students from the UPM who have chosen SPCA Penang as their place of shelter training will be visiting us again. We hope they enjoy their time working with the animals, volunteers and staff at the shelter.

Activities happening inside and outside of SPCA

CSR Project with SEGI College on 24th June

At the invitation of the college, we had a fruitful day with the Segians. The Segians were introduced to SPCA with a powerpoint presentation on Respect for Life and Care for the Environment with stray animals in Penang, and also how shelters came about. With this, we hope the students will have a deeper understanding on becoming a responsible pet owner should they have in mind to keep a pet in the future.

Community service by students from Reliance College & Disted College

Request from students from other colleges coming into the shelter to do community services were also entertained.

SPCA joined the SMJK Heng Ee Scouts Rover

More than 100 students from the various primary schools attended a three day camp organized by SMJK Heng Ee Scouts Rover at SJKC Jelutong. SPCA was invited to the finale to showcase our puppies and kittens to the students with a view to inculcate a sense of responsibility in them should they decide to own a pet. The children were thrilled when they were allowed to touch, feel and carry the puppies and kittens. Most who do not own and not exposed to animals were encouraged to touch and feel the furry paws.
