SPCA Penang
Welcome to our June 2025 Newsletter!

Dear Members & Friends,

Good greetings to all!

Good and responsible pet owners are not so easy to come by. However, in our line of duty, we do meet many owners who share their stories about their life with their pet animals. Some fear that their pet animal would outlive them and make plans on what to do when that happens. Some, knowing the consequences would prepare early to make a provision to fill up the vacuum effect just in case their pet passes on. Most of these very good and responsible ones will normally rest at some point and say 'no more pets for me, it’s very heartbreaking to see them go'. We respect the saying but would wish that such good owners should be encouraged to continue, perhaps save life from a shelter. Shelters are struggling and finding it difficult especially in getting adult dogs a good home. There are many which have grown up with us and we wish that there be a glimpse of hope for them to leave the shelter for a good and forever home. It’s no doubt that having a pet keeps us alert mentally.

Adoptions

Adoptions for May were not great at all.  We only had one adoption. Our hope is not to have a disappointing outcome to an adoption and would like to have potential adopters think carefully to ensure their commitment before deciding to own one. We always stress on "TIME, SPACE & FINANCIAL MEANS" as a priority.

Social Services & Fundraising

We had a visit by students and teachers from the Uplands International School with their presentation of donation. A group of 6 students (The Bakers) raised funds through bake sales in their school to help out with food, medical aids and whatever our animals needed most. Our heartfelt thanks to all involved in making the fundraising project a success.

We welcomed staff members from Juniper Network who chose the shelter for their CSR Project. Your services and donations are gratefully appreciated.

Recently, SPCA collaborated with Eastern & Oriental two day Mini Pet Fair "Meet & Greet" at Straits Quay. This event was well attended by many animal lovers and friends. Thanks to the Organiser for giving us the opportunity to showcase SPCA and sharing in their talk session on our Adoption Procedures as well as Volunteerism. We also acknowledged our gratitude to the volunteers through MIVA who helped throughout the event.

Volunteer Briefing

Our next volunteer briefing will be held on Sat. 21st June. Time: 9.30 a.m. sharp at the SPCA premises. To register, please go to our website spca-penang.net/be-a-volunteer and complete only on the activities interested in. Kindly note that we do not open to the public for volunteering on Sundays.

Our Wish List

We are in great need of food pouches for very young kittens of age 1-2 months. Do include them in your grocery list should you ever have in mind for charity.

We thank the many who donated and brought in the many bags of food for our dogs and cats at the shelter.

Thank you
