  Dear Members & Friends

Greetings from the SPCA Penang!

With the full lockdown that began June 1, we regret to inform everyone that the shelter is closed to visitors and volunteers. Let us all stay safe, stay home and help fight against this pandemic crisis which has been with us for more than a year. At this difficult and tough time with no visitors, shelters will face problems in finding homes for the many animals in their care. The many strays out there who need feeding daily by social and/or community feeders may not be able to receive their regular meals during this present situation where everyone has to stay home.

We urge pet owners to be more concerned over the pet population of stray cats and dogs. Do think of neutering your pet to avoid the many being born and abandoned. Shelters be it with 'kill' or 'no kill' policies are all at bursting point and won’t be able to accept and handle requests for taking them in. Even the trap, neuter and release method will not favor everyone in the community. This is the reality of life we face each day when the public calls to report and/or complain. The worst now is on the stray cat population.

Volunteer Service

To the many regular volunteers who called to request coming in to spend time with the animals at the shelter, we regret that we have to turn down your offer. We will announce once we are able to accept.

We hope everyone will stay safe, stay healthy and get energized with our animals once we allow visitors.

Share Happy Moments

We are strictly not allowing visitors, so we don’t expect adoptions for the month. However, we do hope animal lovers will care to support the work of shelters. You can support by sharing your happy moments with the pet you adopted from us. You can send photos and write-ups to photos@spca-penang.net and do let us know if you're happy that we post this info on our social media platforms. We'd love to hear how well our animals are under your care and we will then rest assured that they are well taken care of. Don’t forget the updates of their boosters etc with your veterinarians

In May, we had five animals adopted.

Virtual Run Event
We have been invited to collaborate with 7 Lights Event Company and Han Chiang University College of Communication in this virtual event – Pet’s Bowl Fund Run which will end on 30th June. The profits from funds raised will go towards two animal welfare charities: SPCA Penang and Meowy Cat Shelter. You can run in the comfort in your own home too on your treadmill. To know more on how you can participate, kindly visit our website page.
