SPCA Penang
Welcome to our May 2026 Newsletter!

Dear Members & Friends,

Good greetings to all!

We have brought this up before, but we are reminding all pet owners that we do not pick up healthy strays from the streets. Many pet owners come running to us (especially those who are not tech savvy) whenever their pets go missing/lost. When er tell them that we do not have any lost/missing pets at the shelter, they cast doubts and make our staff feel very uncomfortable insisting on a check on our kennels. Here are the steps to take when a pet is lost:

  1. Visit the MBPP pound at Jalan Sungai or call 04-2810850 to find out if a pick-up operation has been made on the date your pet goes missing.

  2. Prepare a flier with your pet’s details such as: date, time, place, a recent photo and a phone contact. This will help the shelter to identify if any of the pets missing has been brought into the shelter.

  3. Pet owner can send the Missing Pet Flier to our Volunteer Web Admin (via facebook, instagram or to [email protected]) to help publicise at our social media. Please take note that we do not encourage pet owners to state a REWARD in the flier. This is to safeguard further pet owners from PETNAPPING!

Adoptions

Our adoption rate still remains poor, only three dogs were found homes in April. However, we are glad that Abhi who was one of our long stay paw residents (one year) at the shelter was found a home. Abhi attracts the owner as she was the best barker and would probably ward off anyone from his compound! Well, we have lots of barkers at the moment if one is not bothered of their age and sizes.

We are glad to note that one of our cats, Coco, adopted from us at age two years in October 2023 has left Penang on a quarantine program for six months in Singapore, and is now happily back in Australia with her owners. Though the six months was enduring for both owner and pet, it was worthwhile for the family.

Happenings & Visits

Hand painted tote bags

We still have some of the hand painted tote bags available for sale at a minimum donation of RM20 each, passed on from a CSR event held at INTEL in conjunction with International Women’s Day.

SPCA Neutering Campaign

Beginning May, SPCA Penang is offering  20 free vouchers per month for subsidized neutering of their pet  for all pet owners from the B40 group or any members of public who are unable to meet their budget to neuter their pet animal. For details, do visit the shelter at Jalan Jeti Jelutong or call 04-2816559, whatsapp at 016-4166559.

Educational visit to Chung Ling Private High School

With request from the Board of Monitor from Chung Ling Private High School in Penang, SPCA scheduled a talk themed "Caring for Stray Animals” and the topic touched on was "How to Reduce the Number of Stray Animals and Carry Out Proper Protection Work".

Though not many of the students own pets, it was an eye opener for them to understand how feeding of stray animals increases procreation if no one understands about neutering. The students were given quizzes to answer and understand what our objectives and mission are about.

Disney Figurines

We have new Walt Disney figurines from movies available - very kindly donated by a wellwisher. Do drop by to get them by donation -  Maleficent, Bumble Bee, Marvel, Anime are available by donation. Just drop by to purchase.

RM10 A DAY MEAL Campaign

We provide our shelter animals with at least two meals a day together with the supplements they need. A minimum donation of RM10 a day meal will keep any of our paw mates happy. To donate, please use our QR Code for payment. Your contribution is gratefully appreciated.
