SPCA Penang
Welcome to our May 2023 Newsletter!

Dear Members & Friends,

Good Greetings to all.

SPCA Penang wishes all our Muslim Members and Friends a `Selamat Hari Aidilfitri’. May the month of Syawwal bring peace, happiness and joy to all Malaysians celebrating.

Choosing the right pet for you!

Every potential adopter/pet owner who visits pet shops or shelters comes only looking for a young pet to grow with. We respect their wishes and at the same time owning a pet is accepting a long-term commitment of at least 10-15 years to substantially change one’s way of life. There are many things to ponder and consider: the age, breed, background and their temperament. At the same time, one needs to take a hard look at oneself too. The sacrifices are great. If you love to travel and are busy with your daily chores, think again and again.

Also, it is vital to choose a pet which is kid friendly, if you have very young kids at home. Should you have elderly adults at home, it is recommended to choose one which has a passive and calm behavior. Otherwise, you will be inviting disaster into your home. However, the downside will be that you will not know much about its past. Take your time in choosing when visiting shelters as there are many unwanted/abandoned animals to choose from. Please don’t adopt or buy on an impulse! Adopting or buying a pet is not like taking stock from the supermarket shelf.

All shelters are full with abandoned and unwanted animals and please don’t expect any shelter to accept any pet brought in anytime one thinks it is necessary and deemed fit! One can always call beforehand to ask for advise and see how best help can be extended.

We are still awaiting this husky dog’s (now named "Ice") owner to turn up to reunite with him. Dear Owner, SPCA sincerely hopes that you are not abandoning him! Ice is waiting patiently for you to take him home. We appeal to anyone who can recognize him at home with his owner. It’s a crime to abandon your pet!

Adoption is a Promise

In the month of April, we only had three dogs adopted and one was returned due to family circumstances.

Activities & Happenings at the Shelter

Be it a CSR, Schools, College or University project, we always welcome any who would be willing to share their time working together for the benefit of society. Be prepared to note that you will be working with our shelter animals which can be very active and needing of your attention. People who have compassion and most likely have no fear for animals would be more suitable for such projects.

At the moment a group of Art Class Students are working on a mural wall painting and this is still in progress. Thanks to the students for initiating this.
