SPCA Penang
Welcome to our April 2024 Newsletter!

Dear Members & Friends,

Good greetings to all!

As we are approaching the month of Syawal very soon, we would like to wish all our Muslim Members and friends a SELAMAT HARI RAYA AIDILFITRI. May you receive the blessings of happiness, peace and harmony at this auspicious festive season.

We also wish to remind pet owners to keep their pets indoors to avoid inconvenience to both pets and owners during this festive season as there will be firing of firecrackers too.

Adoption is a Promise

In the month of March, we only had one adoption. Compared to the past, adoption rate has drastically declined. Calls for surrendering has shot up due to many reasons. However, we are unable to entertain to the many requests that come in. We can only assist whenever we can, though quite a few requests can be very demanding. Some who rescue animals and keep for some time may think that they are doing good. Suddenly when they are no longer able to, they turn to shelters with no sense of Responsible Pet Ownership they feel that it’s our responsibility to take over.

How Pets can Help People

We understand that anyone who loves pets would enjoy their companionship. They can help improve our emotional and physical health, also provide us with unconditional friendship and affection. However, it is our responsibility to ensure that they need such basics: food, shelter, veterinary care and most of all our companionship. They can also be our therapists and healers. But please, do think before we become their parent and consider whether we have the: TIME, SPACE AND FINANCIAL MEANS.

Community Service

It’s been a joy to always receive calls with requests to do community service and/or fundraise to help animals in need. Every bit helps, no matter how little. Our sincere gratitude to the 3 groups of students from UOW KDU who took the initiative to fund raise at their college.

The Straits International School made a comeback after their term holidays as well as the students from MCKL

Thanks to the Leo Club of POWIIS for the funds received from their bake sale.

We also welcomed staff from Keysight Technologies who dropped by to provide their service too.
