Dear Members & Friends,
Greetings from the SPCA Penang!
The number of calls and requests for accepting unwanted and /or stray cats are alarming these days. This indicates that the public is aware of the existence of shelters around and hope that they can be taken in for shelter. At the SPCA, we try to rehome the ones that are deemed adoptable. Those that are not adoptable will be vaccinated and spayed/neutered and then released wherever a food source is available. A word of caution for social cat feeders and cat owners: before feeding or accepting to adopt, do think that their population will increase. It is best to seek help and find out how you can maintain and carry on feeding without waiting for the queen to become pregnant or the tom cat to impregnate the queens. No shelters will be able to keep accepting the many that come in. Call or email us so that we can help to reduce the growing population.
Vaccinations for the cats are equally important and necessary so as not to allow the spread of diseases within the area. The most common diseases found in stray cats are 'feline distemper', 'feline leukemia' and 'feline immunodeficiency virus'. Vaccinations are highly recommended especially when the cats go outside.
Do you know that :
