SPCA Penang
Welcome to our February 2024 Newsletter!

Dear Members & Friends,

Good greetings and GONG XI FA CAI to all celebrating and welcoming the Year of the Dragon!

SPCA Penang wishes all of you with showers of blessings for peace, harmony, prosperity and good health.

While we celebrate the Chinese New Year let’s not forget our furry friends at home. We have had many reports of animals gone missing/escaping from homes and no sane person would want this to happen. We hope pet owners to be mindful of their pets. So please take precautions to avoid your pet going astray for this reason.

While we celebrate with the firing of crackers, we would like pet owners to be mindful of their pets. Do keep them safe as they can be stressed with the unusual thunderous noise, thus they can easily escape into hiding and get lost.

TAKE STEPS WHILE YOU ARE ENJOYING THE FESTIVE SEASON

  1. Keep your pet safe at home in an area with less noise as they can be stressed with the firing of crackers.

  2. Always keep your gate/door shut to prevent them from escaping/running away as it can be very traumatizing to both owner and the animal.

  3. If you are away for a period of time, if possible please arrange with your neighbors to keep an eye on your pet or send it to a reliable boarding place.

  4. At any time, please don’t tie your dog on a chain outside your house as your pet dog can get entangled while being traumatized by any thunderous noise and/or the sound of fire crackers.

  5. Should you have to keep your pet within your compound, please check on them every now and then as your presence may calm them.

  6. Please do not let your pet roam on its own outside your house. Should you walk them, please use a good leash to avoid them escaping from your hands.

Adoption is a Promise!

The new year started off with six adoptions. Of course this will not match with the numbers that come in. We do hope to have utmost commitment from all so as not to keep on receiving unwanted and abandoned animals with no end. Nowadays, we find it common for people who tend to pick up strays and after a while when they are unable to commit, then dump on to friends temporarily and don’t return to collect them. Adoption is a promise!
