Youth Education

The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.” – Mahatma Gandhi.

Promoting kindness towards animals has been an ongoing effort taken by SPCA Penang. It is through education whereby we teach the public about prevention of cruelty, pet ownership and responsibility. We have posters, banners, pamphlets with the appropriate message distributed to the public. It is imperative that our next generation be taught about prevention of cruelty to animals. We hold educational talks in schools to educate and teach children. We also hold various educational activities for children too.

EDUCATIONAL FIELD TRIP

We do accommodate school children to visit our compound. Such educational field trips provide an excellent experience for the children to learn about animals. We provide a briefing to the children, they are then guided to take a short tour in our compound. The kids will have an opportunity to interact with the animals. There are some school children who make arrangements through various organizations to participate as volunteers during a day trip to our shelter too. If you are keen to get your school or organization to be part of this program, give us a call (04 281 6559) or email (info@spca-penang.net) to make the arrangement.

CHILDREN’S EDUCATION CAMP

Some photos from recent camp (click on any image to start slide show):

SPCA Penang tries to organize a children’s education camp on a yearly basis. During the day camp, the children learn how to respect, to care and to love pets. The program includes a talk about pet health and care, dog shows, an animal trainer showing how to train pets, games and interactive activities. Some of our own friendly four legged friends are present to provide hands-on experience to these children too. The children always had a fun time and we hope that the children will take back with them the knowledge, value and the responsibility of how to be an “animal carer” through this camp. It creates awareness and instills in the young generation the responsibilities of being a pet owner. Look out for our next camp. We will need sponsorship and lots of volunteers in this event. Do extend your help if you can.

OTHER CHILDREN’S ACTIVITIES

SPCA Penang also holds other children educational activities such as children’s drawing competitions and visits to places such as Taiping Zoo. Such activities have been well received with good participation.
